“A not so cookie-cutter wedding for a not so cookie-cutter couple”
Their Love Story
Remember when I said that their story was a total rom-com movie? Well, I totally meant it! Let’s take it back to when Kate and Michael were still in high school. This is where they had their very first interaction and when Michael first laid eyes on beautiful Kate. Michael remembers exactly where Kate was walking and what she was wearing. Kate, on the other hand, remembers very little of that first interaction. For a few months, they started texting on their EnV flip phones (nothing says skills like texting on the tiny keypad of a flip phone).
Unfortunately, things fizzled out and they both lost contact. They went off to college, started their lives, and even started families of their own. 2018 then came around and they reconnected on social media! Kate drunkenly invited Michael to one of her best friend’s bachelorette parties and guess what? Yep, you guessed it. Michael came.
They later went on their first date and the rest is why you are reading their blog today! As soon as they reunited, their love sparked and they have never looked back. The best part? Kate and Michael’s kids are practically brothers and Michael plans on adopting Ace, Kate’s son. A total rom-com of a love story, right?!
The Proposal
“We went to my annual family beach week in Nags Head, North Carolina. The plan was to do family pictures at the end of the week when we were all tan! Originally, we planned for the photos to be on a Friday, but it would be bad weather, so we moved it to Thursday. Mike had to head home Tuesday night to work a Wednesday fire shift but came back Thursday morning. I didn’t realize I was 1) planning my own engagement and 2) making him hustle on no sleep! We all had dinner, got the kids cleaned up, and went down to the beach to take pictures. Once we got down there, we started to take some photos and our oldest found a corona bottle with a letter in it! I thought nothing of it because we had also found someone’s random lunch napkin blowing down the beach earlier in the week with a cute note written on it (completely unplanned, just happened!).
He was so excited to see paper in this bottle. I listened to him start to read it and he was so nervous he couldn’t get half the words out! I was more focused on him tripping over words and confused that I didn’t realize Mike had now gone behind me and was on one knee. As I help our oldest read, I start listening to the words and it starts talking about the beach, boys, and then me needing to answer a question and it hit me! I froze and looked for him and then turned around and there he was… Our boys were so excited, so happy to be a part of it and it was the best! Turns out, my cousin was face-timing my best friend, my Mom was face timing her best friend, and the rest of my family really were taking pictures! Of my engagement!” – Kate sharing her engagement story.
