These are the lyrics of the tune that would bring Susanna and Steven together after one fateful college audition for “The Fantasticks”. They were chosen to sing the big love song of the show. Never having met each other before this magic moment, they sang a song about longing for someone before you even knew them. A meet-cute designed in the stars.
Steven made sure their proposal story was one to remember as well. He took Susanna out under the guise of celebrating a closing show/her birthday at one of their favorite sushi restaurants and in Susanna’s words, “Something was fishy, and it wasn’t the sushi.”. He coordinated for their friends to be present, all adorned in yellow; her favorite. Soon, a beautiful cake made of sushi came to the table. Susanna was concerned all this delicious food was going to go to waste, and upon insisting everyone eat their share, a ring fell from the cake.
Susanna was overcome with unbridled joy. She hugged everyone in the restaurant and when she couldn’t contain her excitement, she ran outside screaming, dancing and celebrating under the streetlights and a full moon. Her dear friend Hilary joined her. She came back inside overwhelmed by the gesture, the coordination to pull it off, and her own luck she was chosen to sing that song with a man, now dressed in yellow, who asked her to be his bride.
