Kayla & Matthew met at Mount St. Mary’s University when Kayla was in undergrad playing basketball and Matt was a graduate student working as a strength coach for athletics in 2015. Needless to say, they spent a lot of time together since their lives revolved around athletics. After hanging out for two years, they eventually started dating, and moved to Alexandria, VA before bringing home their first puppy, Colt. In 2021, they moved to Cary, NC, where Kayla talked Matthew into a second puppy, Penny!
On the weekend of Kayla’s birthday in 2020, they had planned to do a fall photo shoot (where Matthew secretly decided to propose), but the photographer canceled on them last minute! As their backup plan, they went to a rural pumpkin patch… only to find out it wasn’t dog friendly. And then, after stopping for lunch, Kayla got food poisoning.
Later that day, when she was feeling better, they decided to meet up with Matt’s cousins at their favorite winery. Sure enough, Matt popped the question as they were walking through the vines. Kayla was completely surprised!
