Jill and John’s, St Marys & Annapolis Waterfront Hotel wedding turned out beautiful with a short summer rain storm that cleared the humidity! John and Jill met when they were both stationed in Rota, Spain for their first tour. While there, they ended up spending a lot of time together as they worked at the same place and had the same friend circle. According to John, they fell in love over Mexican food at El Puerto Mexican Cantina…. over some tacos and margs! Jill thinks that they fell in love over time, not just the Mexican food… It was the long chats, the travel, the new experiences they shared together. Ultimately it was the small things that brought them closer: drinking coffee on the porch, watching movies and Spanish sunsets, sharing churros even when you didn’t want to, and trying new food and adventures.
How the proposal went down from John’s POV: Our proposal story started with Jill’s idea to go on a new adventure: a cruise to Alaska. I had been thinking for a while that Jill was the person that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, so I thought the cruise was a perfect place to pop the question. During the planning process, I looked for the perfect opportunity and I found it. It would be on a helicopter tour excursion during the first stop of the cruise in Juneau, Alaska. That day, when we got to the airport, I explained my plan to the pilot, gave him the engagement ring to stash away on the helicopter, and asked him where the perfect place to propose was. The pilot said he had the perfect spot: the last stop…on top of a glacier field. Once we landed there, the pilot sneakily got the ring out of the storage compartment in the back and gave it me (discreetly of course). Jill and I walked through the deep snow under the pretense of getting a nice photo together. When we got a bit away and had a place to ourselves, I proposed. Let’s be honest, I almost lost my balance and kind of fell getting on one knee, but I gracefully recovered. I surprised her, but she said YES (and we have photos to prove it)! We had a little time on the glacier to simply take it all in. We headed back to the ship and enjoyed our new engagement for the rest of our trip through Alaska!
