I was blessed to photograph Megan and David’s union overlooking the amazing Chester River this Spring 2012. They were surrounded by beautiful and loving people with an amazing pastor, who truly speaks to everyone’s heart… I asked Megan to write a few words about her experience to share with other couples planning a tented wedding out doors. Megan planned the entire wedding day from beginning to end. All her ideas and visions came together for a stunning casual wedding.
Megan: “Chestertown, located on Maryland’s beautiful Eastern Shore, is David’s hometown. Many of his best childhood memories took place here. Soon after we started dating, David took me to Chestertown, a place I had never visited, to meet his godparents, take me out on the Chester River, and show me around the cute downtown area. Who knew that this visit, along with many others to come, would lead to me falling in love with a place so special to David? We now spend many weekends in the summer at our place in Chestertown. We’re out on our boat, swimming in the river, or sitting around a fire with friends in the evenings.
After almost two years together, David asked me to marry him. We basked in our joy for a couple of days but then we started the planning. There was no question in either of our minds about where we wanted to get married: Chestertown. After looking at many different venues, we decided that Wilmer Park was the place for us. With it’s amazing view of the water and beautiful simplicity, we knew it fit the relaxed theme we wanted for our wedding. The venue ended up being one of the easiest choices to make during the wedding planning process.
We wanted local businesses (both in Chestertown and Annapolis) or people to whom we had a personal connection for our vendors. We used Eastern Shore Tents and Events, based in Chestertown, for most reception necessities such as the tent, tables, chairs, linens, etc. Overall, we were pleased with their product and happy with the look of our reception. We used The Salon in Chestertown for the bridal party’s hair and makeup. I could not have been happier with our looks for wedding day! Originally, I thought I would do my own makeup to save money, but I absolutely recommend having it done professionally. We also used Caroline’s Cakes in Annapolis for our wedding cake. Our final product was wonderful. Most people commented that it was the best wedding cake they’d ever had. Our officiant, DJ T.J. Garman, pianist, guitarist (Tim Parsley), and singer were all personal friends and we were so pleased to have them participate in our wedding.
We were so blessed to be surrounded by wonderful family and friends, have amazing weather and a fantastic photographer. It truly was the best day of our lives!”
