Day 3: Montmartre Cemetery Treasure Hunt
Early in the morning on March 17th I headed up to Montmartre Cemetery. I was initially headed to complete my treasure hunt a friend had sent me on. I took the Metro all by myself and found my way to this incredible cemetery in the middle of town. Along the way I found a favorite car of mine and a cute old man walking into the cemetery that caught my attention. There are many striking moments in all our lives that are captivating. I feel so blessed to have the ability to capture them…especially as an American photographer in PARIS!! This morning as I wondered the streets alone I realized what a powerful place I am in my life and finally
I was headed to find Edgar Degas‘ resting place and along the way met a very nice person who took me around the cemetery telling me about all the “Greats” who are resting in this cemetery. It really opened my eyes to how much history I don’t know about and without those devoted to keeping heirlooms and ancestry alive, it would honestly be forgotten….I was blown away by the attention to detail to so many of these graves. The man who invented the saxophone was buried in the cemetery! So many great figures from the past.
The Montmartre Cemetery was absolutely amazing to see and I would recommend going to one of these cemeteries in Paris as they are full of history. It will most certainly blow you away.
I found the family of De Gas’ and under the clues of the rocks was my final treasure piece!! A metro ride to my next destination. You may not be able to guess where I went, but next stop was the Eiffel Tower!!
The cutest old man ever! Loved how he walked directly center into the cemetery
My final stop on the treasure hunt! So neat that it was still there just down the way from where it had been placed weeks prior. It had rained alot in Paris the week before and so the treasure had washed away down the street however it was STILL there!! Famille de Gas aka Edgar Degas’ family 🙂
It was a rainy morning in the Montmartre cemetery but all those who know me know I LOVE reflections in puddles, always have always will 🙂 What better than the parisian style architecture in those reflections. looovvvve
The only little kitty I saw in the entire cemetery. She was guarding this plot. (or he)
