Picking Photography Locations | Eastern Shore Farm Wedding Photographer

January 19, 2013

Picking a photography location for your Portraits & Engagement session can be very daunting.  You want the photography location to represent something about you, maybe there’s a memory there, or a new memory can be created!  I always recommend going to a town/location/city that’s familiar to the couple or family when picking photography locations.  Think about this.  You want to be able to look back at your photographs in 10, 15, 20 years and remember the spot you chose and why it was meaningful…

As a photographer when picking photography locations, I look for areas of shade, unique tree lines, dunes, architecture, fields, grasses, and many other things to choose the spots I take people during their photography session.  If you have 5 minutes before always walk around the area you are in and peak around the corners, look down alley ways… You never know what unique spot is waiting for an amazing photo!

This special location is TOP secret!  I keep few things secretive but because of the nature of this property I don’t want to send people here and then have them get hurt/in trouble etc.  I was taken there by a friend who had stumbled upon the abandoned farm.  Little do you realize until you are walking the property that there is a cemetery with two grave plaques, corn fields, gorgeous old barns, a HUGE oil/gas drum, and an updated Farm house that has busted windows.  These adjectives may turn most of you away, but say a few of those words to me and I’m itching to see it!  OH I forgot it’s right on the water overlooking Kent Island…hmm yea with a crazy recycled cement scraps shoreline.  Absolutely bizarre but I loved it, so much that a few weeks later I had another engaged couple wanting to see.  They were so intrigued that we did their engagement session there so their dog could run around!

See if you can guess where it is!

Above is the sunset at the abandoned farm.  Below is a sunset 4 minutes away!

Be sure to drive around when picking photography locations, this relaxing pier and view of the sunset was less then 2 miles away on Crab Alley Bay!  Lift your eyes off just one idea and look for more!
